Hello all--
I heard on a news special that in most public schools in Texas, part of the mandatory cirriculum must include bible studies.
Is this true? If so, are any of you parents of school-aged children, and how do you deal with this?
I'm a single mom thinking about moving to Texas, but I have to admit that this does concern me a little... maybe I'm being too sensitive?

Well, from what I have heard they are not mandatory and in no way are they bible studies. Texas instated the right for public schools to add in a theology course which would count as an elective from my understanding. This is not confirmed it is just the way I understood the bill.

Don't believe the hype. Bible studies are not a mandatory class for Texas students. The good old boys down here simply made it mandatory that "if" fifteen or more students requested a course on the literature of the Bible, that it would be made available. The nature of the course itself will vary from school to school but it is supposed to be a comparative literature course which follows the influence of the Bible (both directions). In general the course never actually manifests anywhere as there is never any demand for it.
